A lotería and a coloring book about Atoyac, Jalisco
I was born and raised in Atoyac, Jalisco. I went to the Escuela Emiliano Zapata there, and that's where my grandmother taught me to make tortillas. I live in Minneapolis now, but the town comes with me: the Friday tianguis, tostadas raspadas, leather belts, the patron saint fiestas and the Independence Day ones.
This year I wanted to gather those memories into something you can play and color. The result is the Lotería de Atoyac: 54 cards showing the town's places, people, food and fiestas, each with a short rhyme for the caller. The church is there, the plaza and its quiosco, the dam, the waterfall, the leatherworker, the farmworker, the pajarete, and even the gas truck that shouts "¡el gaaas!" down the street.
I used the same drawings to make a coloring book, with one page per card and its rhyme underneath. The game and the book are in Spanish, and the book has a welcome page in English.
Both are free to print at home or at school:
